As it stands, Odelle is in fact a very common name in Tyrian legend, tracing itself back to 870 AE, when Curtis Odelle founded the Odelle boating empire.

in the years before the long-standing Canthan trade blockade (where, after years of pirate attacks across the sea, as well as general distrust of foreigners, the Canthan emperor isolated the continent, until the present day of ‘Guild Wars Factions,’ 1072 AE), Curtis proved himself a negotiable, diplomatic salesman and captain. with a very strong belief in the cultural movement of ‘casual magic,’ Curtis was able to command fleets using coloured sparks, notes transmitted through morse code firework, and after years of practice, spontaneous transference of written material.

While eccentric — as business founders are prone to be — Curtis slowly let his crew grow from his first ship in 870 AE to at least a dozen ships by 885 AE, peaking at two dozen in 891 AE. as the years went on, Curtis, encouraged by his first start commanding a ship, took to manning trips regularly until his death in 910 AE, a decade after Canthan-Tyrian trade dissolved entirely. in that brutal decade, as tension grew between Orrian sailors and their Krytan neighbours, Curtis began to spend more and more time in the hot, swampy regions of Elona, the land of the golden sun.

In addition to all this, Curtis was a well-known womaniser, stopping at every bar, pool hub and gambling hut in harbours world-round, and his charismatic ease lent him many admirers. There are, because of this, Odelles literally everywhere, all distantly and vaguely connected to him; in addition, this has lent the Odelles in focus to be primarily of mixed race.

Curtis’ final lover and wife was Aless Odelle (née Callens; Aless Callens was in fact a great, great predecessor of Flannery Callens, born in Ascalon, and trained for the Nolani Academy for five years before the Searing, which totally destroyed it; Flannery would remain in Ascalon to train in and discuss elemental magic, and later participate among the Ebon Vanguard during the time of ‘Guild Wars: Eye of the North’), an Orrian runaway-turned-barmaid, in love with the casual magic movement and tied to many powerful counsel, if only through estranged means. Their children and so on led to Alessandra Odelle, who was born in Ascalon through Brian Odelle and Michiko Luan, a Canthan third-generation immigrant and trader.

Alessandra Odelle in young adulthood

Alessandra, after years of communing with the Druids of the Maguma Jungle, decided to return to her mother’s homeland of Cantha for five years, before returning to the Ebon Vanguard in the years of ‘Guild Wars: Eye of the North’. Alessandra is also distantly related to Siobhan Odelle through her father’s second cousin, Daniel Odelle, who descended from Odelles working in the boating empire’s Canthan offices. Daniel married Hinata Yan, a bureaucrat under the Ministry of Trade, with aristocratic ties far, far up her bloodline, through an ancestral counsel position with the emperor.

Siobhan — named after Daniel’s great-aunt — and her sister, Tessa Odelle, both were admitted to the Shing Jea Monastery within three years of each other. Siobhan, the eldest, graduated in illusionary arts and assisted as a Ministry ambassador to the Kurzicks until the events of ‘Guild Wars Factions,’ which opened the gates to foreigners once again. Tessa stayed at Shing Jea Monastery as an instructor of the ritual and spiritual arts, in communion with the spirits of her ancestors.

Siobhan later took years off to travel, having never been on a ship in her life, and found an unfamiliar kinship with the Asura of the Deep Krytan lands. Assisting with Canthan illusion traps, and learning a rudimentary, basic robotics powered out of powerful magic sources underneath the earth, Siobhan found the Asura powerful allies — who, strangely, were the first to found optometry as a profession.

Selina Odelle and Darah Odelle were sisters born in Istan, Elona, roughly 1045-1050 AE. Daughters of a Sunspear general father and a well-known priestess healer, both found themselves caught in the fissures of discipline and devout faith; and yet, both found themselves drawn in opposite directions. While amicable, Selina and Darah were quite obviously differently adept, and so could never find the particular kind of family locked away behind the advanced years of a shared career.

Selina, at 15 years of age, began suffering from terrifying dreams; believing it a foreboding omen, she sought refuge in the Northern Shiverpeaks of Tyria, beginning training as a Dervish monk among a commune created in harmony with the dwarves. Using a scythe made out of everlasting ice through a fluke prayer to Grenth, Selina was able to quickly arrange meals nearly instantaneously frozen for later use.

Darah, on the other hand, found herself following in her father’s footsteps among the Sunspears. With her natural charisma, towering figure and piercing eyes, she discovered an absolute aptitude for leadership on the battlefield, and soon outgrew her father’s shadow, fighting at Kormir’s side throughout the events of ‘Guild Wars Nightfall’ until Kormir took up the powers of the fallen god, Abbadon, to become the Goddess of Truth.

Darah would call Selina back home seven years after her original departure. Hesitant, but devoted to Darah, Selina promised to take up a more ‘pragmatic’ profession, using her latent healing skills to properly enter the world of healing. However, after an attack by Corsairs through a fortnight stay in a Kournan hotel, Selina discovered her devout practices provided a distinct advantage, as her fighting style was otherwise unheard of — scythes? a graceful, destructive choreography that never took life for granted, even while it spread its essence?

Selina would begin practicing her Dervish ways once again.

What would happen to the bloodline?

Darah Odelle in adulthood

Flannery Callens would marry an Ascalonian playwright and begin collaborating with him, using her elemental magic as a theatre technician to woo the newborn Ascalonians.

Siobhan, after three years with the Asura, would continue her trip across Tyria and use her aristocratic charm to win over many lovers of either sex; to Siobhan, both had their benefits.

Tessa, after several experimental attempts, found the pleasures of the flesh distracted too harshly from her communion among the spirits, and preferred to live her life in solitude.

Selina, after devoting herself to a chaste life, would open up a monastery in the fertile lands of Vabbi to endow a humility to the otherwise bourgeois youth of Elona.

Darah, after absolute veneration in the wake of ‘Guild Wars Nightfall,’ never quite forgot the horrors of fighting the demons of hell; still, her eyes would show her total resolve, keeping their piercing gaze, as she became spearmarshal. she would later retire early in order to focus on more domestic affairs, with her husband.
